Experience the Seasonal Sparkle of Boston

Grab your mittens, your coat and your scarf (and don’t forget your mask) and get ready to enjoy the holidays, Boston 2020 style. Even though things will look and feel a bit different this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, there are still plenty of delightful winter escapades that kids of all ages can enjoy, says Kevin Defayette, Executive Director of Waterstone at the Circle.

“Bostonians are all about ingenuity, and it will take more than COVID-19 to quash our holiday happiness,” he says. “There are many reimagined events and activities taking place around our area, and I encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the holiday magic.”

Here are some of the holiday celebrations taking place in Boston during 2020. Please be sure to check the official sites for any up-to-date information or last-minute cancellations.

Holiday Light Shows at the Greenway Carousel

Holiday light shows at the Greenway Carousel are a classic Boston event. Enjoy favorite holiday songs as festive light shows play every 30 minutes starting at 4:45 p.m. and ending at 7 p.m.

Zoolights at Stone Zoo

November 2, 2020 through January 3, 2021

ZooLights is back and completely reimagined for 2020. This winter wonderland will take you on a one-way stroll through the zoo, along tree-lined paths lit by twinkling lights. Spanning the zoo's 26 acres, walk through the beautifully lit Yukon Creek and see black bears, a bald eagle, Canada lynx, arctic foxes, and even reindeer. These sparkling lights are sure to get everyone in the holiday spirit.

Snowport Holiday Wonderland & Outdoor Game Center – Boston Seaport

November 14 through December 19

This winter, Seaport is SNOWPORT – a winter wonderland of safe, seasonal activities. Surprises big and small await you in our brilliantly bedecked neighborhood. And there is no better time to experience the magic than during our Winter Wonder Walks, scheduled for each Saturday from 2 – 6 p.m.

Winter Lights at Southwick Zoo – Mendon, MA

November 27 through December 30

The annual Winter Lights at Southwick’s Zoo is definitely something you won’t want to miss. The Winter Wonderland Drive-Thru tour will take guests through the Frozen Forest where they may spot a few of our fallow deer. Guests will also drive through Whoville to encounter the Grinch himself. Afterwards, stroll through Santa’s Enchanted Village, where you can enjoy a socially distanced meet and greet with Santa Claus as well as entertainment, interactive musical lights, reindeer games, a petting zoo and more. Concessions will be available.

La Salette Christmas Celebration of Lights – Attleboro, MA

November 26, 2020 through January 3, 2021

La Salette Christmas Celebration of Lights is one of the most beloved and popular holiday displays in the state. Held at The National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette, visitors will enjoy the glory of 300,000 lights illuminating over 10 acres of winter wonderland.

Magic of Lights at Gillette Stadium – Foxboro, MA

November 13, 2020 through January 2, 2021

Magic of Lights is a unique and dazzling drive-through holiday lights experience to celebrate the season. Pile everyone into the car and experience Magic of Lights from the safety and comfort of your own car as you wind through the sparkling path. At every turn, the magical route is overflowing with spectacular light displays that bring your favorite holiday themes and characters to life.

Drive-Thru Holiday Light Show – Waltham, MA

November 27, 2020 through January 3, 2021

The Waltham Lions present a brand-new drive-through holiday light show. More than one mile of roadway is transformed into a glittering display of over one million LED lights and animatronic scenes for you to enjoy from the safety and comfort of your car. Tune in to FM radio for accompanying holiday music for a festive holiday experience.

Bright Nights at Forest Park – Springfield, MA

November 25, 2020 through January 6, 2021

Now in its 26th year, Bright Nights is one of the area’s best and biggest holiday lighting displays. Enjoy the wonders of the season from the comfort of your own car. Visitors can tune their car radio to 98.5 FM to enjoy holiday music. Don't forget to stop at 'Bright Nights Gift Stop' for refreshments and souvenirs before you leave.

Holidays at the Newport Mansions – Newport, RI

November 21, 2020 through January 10, 2021

Holidays at the Newport Mansions will be more spectacular than ever this year, with our new outdoor experience. For the first time, the exterior of The Breakers and its landscape will be awash in thousands of festive colored lights, including 28 spruce trees glittering and glowing. The Children’s Cottage will be outlined in lights and visitors will be able to peek through the windows at Santa’s Workshop inside.

Gift of Lights at New Hampshire Motor Speedway – Loudon, NH

November 26, 2020 through January 3, 2021

This year, the 2.5-mile drive-thru light show is even brighter with 3.5 million lights, a new 150-foot RGB Tunnel of Lights and new scenes including the Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks, Mother Goose, Jack Be Nimble, Deer Beach Vacation and a package-wrapping machine. Over 650 hours go into setting up more than 520 displays and 80 different scenes each year, which also includes the popular 12 Days of Christmas scene and the fan-favorite 130-foot long infield entrance and exit Tunnels of Lights made up of over 25,000 lights.

First Night Boston 2021 – VIRTUAL

December 31, 2020 through January 1, 2021
